Bug Description

I purchased "Sneaker Pimps - Spin Spin Sugar" from the music store, expecting each of the four tracks to come down. Tracks 2, 3 and 4 downloaded successfully. Track 1 didn't ;)

When browsing the "My downloads" area in Rhythmbox, the missing track "Spin Spin Sugar - Sneaker Pimps Spin Spin Sugar" (track 1) is reporting "Preparing your download...". It appears to be stuck at Ubuntu One.

I believe this error may be due to the title tag conflict in tracks 1 and 2. Track 2 downloaded fine, and it's title tag reads "Spin Spin Sugar" (according to Rhythmbox), it ought to read "Spin Spin Sugar (Album Mix)". I would expect track 1 to read "Spin Spin Sugar (Radio Edit)" too, but it's probably also "Spin Spin Sugar", hence Ubuntu One could be having a hard time writing the file.

I've included a couple of screenshots to better explain the problem.

Hi, Steve. We're currently working on a server-side issue which causes some songs from an album to not download, so it's a bit hard to tell whether you're one of the unlucky few who've been hit by that, or whether it really is a problem with the id3 tags being the same. (I am 90% sure it's the former, because we don't look at id3 tags, but I might be wrong.)

I have a similar problem and accidentally created a duplicate bug report. In my case the problem are songs on the album Blackjazz from the band Shining (for details see Bug #560076) .
Is there anything going on to solve the problem? It seems "just" to be a matter of not giving the same file name to songs who have the same (or similar) titles and are on the same album.

In my case, there are up to four songs with the same title within the one album. When browsing the songs in the store before trying to download them, there is more detail in the title of each song, such as who it is remixed by - but when after purchasing in the My Downloads link, such remixes all have a common title. When I click on one of these, the other songs with the same title change to "queued" status for a while, then revert back to "there was a problem with the download"....

Yay! I'm the Champ! But I can't even count! This album has actually 5 FIVE tracks with the same name (see list below - Bodymotion beats the lot!).

Could the problem be related to the parentheses in the track titles? The titles as shown in the My Downloads screen only has the text up to but not including the first parenthesis. "So Surrender (Sommerstad Remix)" and "Surrender (Eelke Klejin Remix)" both become just simply "Surrender"

Artist - Way Out West
Track list from the Album We Love Machine - The Remixes.

Hope this helps!

I also noticed that Steve's Spin Spin Sugar remix tracks also have parentheses - and his track titles were also truncated just before the first parenthesis. Looks to be the same issue (or related) that I have with Way Out West remix track titles. The difference is none of my tracks have yet come across from 7Digital to my Ubuntu One cloud account.

Two tracks with the same name (ignoring the parenthetical comment):

Album = Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells Digital Box Set

Tracks concerened :

Tubular Bells Part One (Rough Mix November 1972)
Tubular Bells Part One (Original)

Annoyingly it's the (Rough Mix November 1972) version that's failed to download - which was the main reason for buying the album in the first place :-(

Apart from reporting the bug what can be done to retreive the missing track?

Thanks Matt,

Needless to say, I won't be using Ubuntu One Music Store
any more, at least until this is fixed. I've always been an
advocate of Linux & open source (been using Linux
exclusively since the days of Red Hat 6).

It's not acceptable for a company (open source or not...) to take money
for services it's not capable of providing. This sort of bug is likely
to prove a great stumbling block to the general acceptance of
Linux/Open Source for the general public.

I'll stay with buying CDs by mail order and forget about the utopia of
an open source online music download service....

Cheers,

John

Is there a fix and how do I get my songs without using up my downloads?

This problem should be fixed now. If you have sourced your downloads

However, the missing track is still showing greyed out and "0MB

I've just sent another message to 7Digital Customer services asking for
a refund of the total cost of the album. Perhaps if they get a flurry
of similar requests from Ubuntu One customers they might come up with
an ad hoc method of delivering our missing tracks, pending a fix to
Ubuntu One Music Store.

A bug in "free" software is one thing that most Linux users are happy
to put up with, but a bug that prevents the delivery of items that have
been purchased commercially is quite something else.

I start getting impatient, I just would like to download the songs I've paid for, nothing more. Otherwise, I could have simply ordered a CD, that should have been delivered by snail-mail already... If it doesn't work with syncing to u1, I could imagine most of the users affected by this problem were pretty much satisfied with an alternative way to download their songs...

Well, I just figured out some kind of workaround, since I lost confidence in this issue being solved in an appropriate time period.

Disclaimer: follow these steps on your own responsibility!

So here's the details: 7digital (the supplier behind U1 MusicStore) allows us to download a track up to three or four (I think the latter) times. That's what I used to overcome the download-deficiency...

1) Download the affected track from your Ubuntu1-storage or *copy* it from your local sync-folder. I repeat, you have to have a copy of the file you want to keep in a location not under sync-control with U1!!
2) Next, use a web-browser (firefox, ...) and navigate to the web-view of your U1 file storage: https://one.ubuntu.com/files
3) Locate the affected file already synced to U1 in your folder hierarchy under "Purchased Music"
4) Delete the affected file by clicking on "More" (right side), then "Delete file". The file will be removed from U1 as well as from all computers/devices connected to this account.
5) Open rhythmbox on your computer, navigate to "My downloads" inside the U1-Store.
6) The tracks not yet synced to U1 should show up (as they hopefully did earlier) in the list of purchased software. Next to them a message should tell you that something went wrong in syncing them to U1 or the file has been deleted there.
7) In addition, an additional link next to the track should give you the possibility to "restart" the downloading/syncing of this track.
8) Now simply choose one of the missing versions, click on the "Start download" (or whatever it's called).
9) Don't be scared, the U1MS starts queuing *all* the tracks for downloading. From what I experienced here, synchronization with U1 starts with exactly the track that you clicked on.
10) Obviously, synchronization will stop again after one file has been downloaded to U1 since the base-problem still is the same. So just download the new file to you computer and goto (1).

NOTE: this will eat up your download credits associated with that very purchase. Maybe 7digital will reset the counter if you ask kindly until canonical solves the U1-issue, but I haven't tried yet...

I repeat, take these steps on your own responsibility. This worked perfectly for me on an album (single) that contained nothing but four tracks all of the same name (regular version + remixes), no idea if this works as well for albums that contain other tracks as well.

Thanks guys!

My missing track has just downloaded. Does this mean Ubuntu One Music
Store is fixed and it's safe to order albums that have duplicate track
titles? If so I'm happy now to use it again, as it's a great facility.

Cheers,

You're getting SOMEWHAT closer guys, but not there yet.

-- I was missing one track from Suzanne Vega's album "Solitude Standing". Ubuntu One had downloaded Track 11, which was an instrumental-only track of "Tom's Diner". I was missing Track 1, which was a complete voice/instrumental track of "Tom's Diner". (This was the track I really wanted most!)
-- Following up on John P-G's note above, I opened Rhythmbox and saw that I now have TWO copies of Track 11! So, technically speaking, I have two copies like I should have, but but of them show up on Rhythmbox as Track 11, and, upon listening, they both are indeed, the same track!
-- I am still missing Track 1, "Tom's Diner"!

It's fixed for me now, apart from the (small) obstacle that I had to delete one of songs in U1 since it showed up in the MusicStore as "missing or deleted" (it actually *was* there, but it lacked the ID3 information, so probably it had a different checksum than expected, I guess).

After deleting that file, it re-synced and now everything's fine.

To those still having problems about duplicated and missing files (Jon / Christopher): the file that still had the issues described just above was the copy that had already been synced previously (before the bugfix was committed). Did you try to clean the downloaded files in your U1 storage and try to re-sync?
