Bug Description

Binary package hint: tofrodos

From the changelog https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/tofrodos/+changelog

* Drop dos2unix and unix2dos symlinks, to allow introduction of original
dos2unix package. (remove dh_link call and add NEWS about that)

The symlinks were removed to allow the files to appear in the package dos2unix but this package does not exist in Luid 10.04.

The symlinks should be restored or the dos2unix package created.

I can confirm this problem. Just installed tofrodos and see there is no symlinks to dos2unix. An apt-cache search on dos2unix returns nothing.

Changed in tofrodos (Ubuntu):

The dos2unix package seems to be available in package Ubuntu 10.10
Maverik, but what to do until then? Is not it better to setup alternatives?

I made a simple patch on top of the current package. It creates dos2unix and unix2dos links via update-alternatives, so we could easily replace them when dos2unix package will be ready.

You can build patched deb as follows:

sudo apt-get build-dep tofrodos
sudo apt-get source tofrodos
cd tofrodos-1.7.8.debian.1
patch -p1 < ../alternatives.patch
dpkg-buildpackage

As of Ubuntu 10.10 dos2unix package exists in repository. So for me the bug is resolved.

What about users of 10.04 LTS, the version the bug was reported against? It's just two missing symlinks but is something users shouldn't have to fix themselves especially with the Ubuntu focus on fixing 'Paper Cuts'. Someone has also been kind enough to submit a patch yet this bug has been open for months. I know this is a trivial and boring bug but getting it fixed shouldn't be difficult or time consuming either.
