Bug Description

The problem:
When double-clicking the executable "VMware-Workstation-Full-7.0.1-227600.x86_64.bundle" in order to install it I get a "root access is required for the operations you have chosen." error

What I expected to happen:
I expected to be presented a graphical password prompt in order to type in my password and start the installation.

What Happened:
I had to go execute it from the terminal in order start the installer, to avoid the error mentioned in the problem.

When I thought that this might be a missing feature I submit the request in ubuntu brainstorm but the moderator recommended to submit it as a bug or a support request.

Points to note:
1. VMware-Workstation-Full-7.0.1-227600.x86_64.bundle is a graphical installer
2. I have already ticked the "Allow executing file as program" in the permissions tab when going to the file properties

System info: Ubuntu 10.04 64bit

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Is this error from the Desktop, or from the Installer?

I made a nautilus-actions script that adds "Run as Administrator" in the right-click menu for running binaries and scripts as an root without going to the terminal

To install it:
1. Install nautilus-actions from the package manager
2. go to System > Preferences > Nautilus Actions Configuration
3. go to Tools > Import Assistant and select the xml file downloaded from the attachment
4. log out and back in, you're done.

I forgot to add a script that the patch depends on.
Create a ".bin" (notice the "dot" before "bin") folder in your home directory and download the attached script to it?field.comment=I forgot to add a script that the patch depends on.
Create a ".bin" (notice the "dot" before "bin") folder in your home directory and download the attached script to it.
Remember to mark the script as executable, right-click on it > Properties > Permissions tab > tick "Allow executing file as program"
