Bug Description

Installing fonts from cd collections is a pain. Individually adding them is TOO slow. Answering all the questions is daunting when you know little about the terms for the fonts. Adding the AFM file should be exactly the same file except swap PFB for AFM.
It should be easy to install fonts from a collection. A question to ask is should their be psuedo-debs that can take a particular known cd of fonts and just install them or something like that with all the default values for fonts. Beyond this installing fonts by whole directory should as simple as 'add this directory' with very few questions asked of the user.
This is brought about the LONG and PAINFUL adding fonts from the Bitstream 500 font collection CD I own. I am willing to help with usabilty assements of making changes to the way fonts are added to the system.

As I briefly touched in the previous article, font installation in GNOME is such an example. Installing fonts in GNOME is as simple as navigating to System->Preferences->Appearance->”Fonts” Tab->”Details” Button->”Go to Fonts Folder” Button, and finally drag and drop your new fonts in this directory. There is another shortcut to get here however. You can open a nautilus window, press Ctrl + L and in the address text box type: “fonts:///”.

That's not really a gnome-control-center bug and should be better discussed in a specificiation

The bug lies in the fact that there is no built-in font manager as every modern OS has it.
