Some extra courses broken

Bug Description

Several of the courses in this package are broken. In several, the elevations are not right, and trees and other obstacles completly fill the course.
Converting the .rgb files to .png files seemed to solve the problem. The .tcl files had to be modified to point to the new images.
I would be willing to help fix the package, if someone can tell me or point me to what to do.

Could you please provide the names of the courses broken in the package, and what the problems are for each course?

Thanks

Dead Man's Drop
Desperation
Wild West Chute Out
Hippo Run
All of the above had bizarre elevations, terrain, and objects.

Keep Your Country Tidy had problems because the course size specified in the .tcl file didn't match the size of the image files.

I can fix these and post the files, if that is helpful.

Do others have this problem?

Are these still broken in Edgy or Feisty's packages of tuxracer?

These courses have the same problems on Edgy. I haven't tested them on Feisty, but it looks like the ppracer packages haven't changed.
I was incorrect about Desperation being messed up - the course is just unusual.

Do you happen to know if they're fixed in Debian? If so, it would just be a simple sync to finally get this thing taken care of.

The Debian unstable package is the same as the Edgy/Feisty package.

For Hippo Run, only the elev.rgb file causes the problem. I haven't investigated the other courses yet.

GIMP is able to open the files, so I doubt that they are corrupted. Saving them as uncompressed .rgb's didn't help.

I'm suspecting this isn't actually a bug with the planetpenguin-racer-extras package itself, but rather a bug in the .rgb file reader in the ppracer program.
I'll investigate more in the next couple days, and post what I find out.

I did a little more testing on the broken courses, and came up with the following:

Hippo Run
elev.rgb was the only one with problems. Copying the image data to a new image using GIMP fixed the problem. The fixed rgb image is attached.

Wild West Chute Out
 elev.rgb and trees.rgb have problems.
Using elev.rgb with terrain.png and trees.png, the elevation appears to be correct, but shifted to the right. Copying the image data into a new file caused the elvation data to be shifted to far to the left.
trees.rgb caused enourmous amounts of objects to be displayed all over. Copying it into a new file using GIMP didn't help.
Saving both files as png images causes the problem to disappear.

Dead Man's Drop
 All three files have problems.
This course should be removed from the planetpenguin-racer-extras package, as it is already in the default installation of ppracer. In the default install, the files have been converted to png images.

As mentioned before, Desperation isn't broken.

Sounds like plenty of info to me. I would file a bug in the upstream bugtracker, but I'm having trouble accessing http://projects.planetpenguin.de Please check every now and then for me, and maybe file a bug there yourself. I'll be checking back too.
