Bug Description

in dapper, when performing "apt-get update" i get an error message. i have been getting this message, everytime that i attempt to update my package lists, since installing dapper about one month ago.

by using firefox, i was able to download and open the relevant "Packages.gz" file without a problem.

i'm not sure if this is a problem with the netork/server or an actual bug in Ubuntu, but there should certainly be a better error message in either case.

the error that the terminal spit out was:

you could try to remove the "us" in the URL of the repos which give you errors

just to see if the probleme come from you or from the repo

Hmm... Well, it would still be good to know why this failed. If it was a problem with the server, then why could you access the repository via Firefox? In any case, it would be good to provide a more sensible error message - at least when stumbling across this problem via gnome-app-install or other GUI-based apps.
