I'm experiencing the same exact problem. The same issue is also being seen when running the program itself, not only in the registration screen. Apparently the font that it wants to use appears as only rectangles.

I have this problem too in Edgy Eft / AMD64. On the console it says "Qt: Locales not supported on X server"

Broken for me on Kubuntu Edgy (generic), no Beryl or anything special.

The Eagle-Gui is broken while running beryl as desktop-manager.
Always switching XGL and no-xgl is very annoying.
I had a similar problem with Java-Guis that could be fixed by setting an environment-variable: export AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit
Is there any similar solution for the Eagle-Program?

Best regards,
 Tobias

Still present in Hardy! - can be reproduced only with Compiz fusion activated though.

I am seeing rectangles, this IS the same bug (i don't see people reporting rectangles in the compiz bug).

I seem to have encountered this before. It's something like the dependency on a font thingy missing. I was googling to find out what it was.

I'm running natty, I'm installing eagle in a chrooted lucid (because the debootstrap of natty failed).

apt-get install libfontconfig1 fontconfig

is the workaround for me: Eagle needs to depend on one of these (I haven't taken the trouble to find out which one. Sorry).
