Bug Description

Binary package hint: powersaved

After recient updates I have no longer been able to use speedstepping on my laptop.

I get this error when starting powersaved:
FATAL: Error inserting speedstep_centrino (/lib/modules/2.6.17-6-386/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/speedstep-centrino.ko): No such device

Kernel version - 2.6.17-6-386
Laptop info:
sudo dmidecode -s system-manufacturer
Acer

sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name
TravelMate 650

sudo dmidecode -s system-version
Rev 1

I'm still using the 2.6.17-6 kernel as the -7 wont boot for me at all.

Previously speedstepping was previously, with klaptop (and powernowd), which I uninstalled in favour of powersaved (upon recommendation), and then it was working for a while with powersaved.

This seems an error in the kernel driver rather in powersave daemon. Changing package name...

I am having problems with speedstepng too.

Ubuntu version: 6.10
CPU: Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2300 @ 1.66GHz
sudo modprobe speedstep-centrino gives the following:
FATAL: Error inserting speedstep_centrino (/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/speedstep-centrino.ko): No such device

What I'm saying is that speedsteping is not working though as far as I know the CPU supports it.

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached its end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
