Bug Description
With lirc in edgy i have to dpkg-reconfigure the package every time i reboot my machine although the configuration is fine. If i don't dpkg-reconfigure it, the irxevent and irexec clients cannot connect to the lirc daemon. (if i remember right, there is the same problem on dapper, and maybe on breezy)
Also...a while ago, on hoary, a dpkg-reconfigure lirc ran an ncurse configuration dialog for choosing the right module, now since (breezy or dapper) we have to edit manually the conf files after searching over the net for some howto, that's not user-friendly at all like it was before.

are you sure just restarting the lirc-daemon doesn't help? At least when vdr connects to lircd the daemos quits when it can't find /dev/lirc. Check the syslog for any messages from lircd.
