Bug Description

msmtp doesn't provide mail-transport-agent, so it is not possible to use mutt+msmtp without another additional transport agent.

reassign 328123 msmtp
thanks

It's up to msmtp to decide if it wants to "Provides:
mail-transport-agent".

(And the first alternative in the Depends: line has to be a real
package for technical reason, that's why it's "exim4 |
mail-transport-agent" in mutt.)

Well, i'm not sure if msmtp is really a valid replacement for
mail-transport-agent. I've tryed the sendmail mode few weeks ago and as
a result, i've lost some mails like crontabs or debconf notes. I do
consider loosing mail a minor problem so i will not provide
mail-transport-agent, for instance. I thought to add the Enhances field
but i don't know if this field is used by modern package manager.

I keep in mind your request (which is the same as #296041) and i'll try
to fix this issue as soon as possible.

Cheers

Hi Stefan,

Note that there is #328123 open against msmtp asking for it to provide
mail-transport-agent. My current take on this bug is the following: I
prefer not to touch mutt's Depends line until that bug in msmtp gets
resolved: if msmtp ends up providing: m-t-a, this bug will be solved,
and if the maintainer determines msmtp can't provide m-t-a, I will add
"| msmtp" to mutt's Depend line.

Does this sound reasonable to you? In the meantime, you can use equivs
to create a dummy mail-transport-agent package.

  Cheers,

Oh, I didn't notice that bug - that's perfectly fine with me.

Thanks & Regards
