Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

Hi,
I have a HP OfficeJet 8000 with duplex unit. I could easily set up the printer and the normal operations work without problems. However, I can not use the duplex mode within Evince and OpenOffice. The Print dialog gives me not the opportunity to activate duplex, even though I set it up in the printer settings.

The following steps were made:
- Printer connected via Ethernet
- Add the printer under System-> Administration-> Printing
- In the same program I have set the following three settings:
- Under "Installable Options" I set "Duplexer Installed" enabled
- Under "Printer Options" I set "Media Size" to "A4 Auto Duplex"
- Under "Printer Options" I can configure "Double-sides printing" example "Long edge"
- A PDF is opened with Evince
- Starting printing with STR + P
- In "Page Setup" I can only select "One Sided" within the option "Two-sided"
- Open Office has been opened
- In the OOo printer dialog I can set duplex mode only to "off"

Here is a screenshot of the situation. On the left side the printer configuration, on the right the Evince printing dialog.

When I use the HPLIP Toolbox (package 'hp-gui') for printing, then the duplex mode works without any problems. The same with the Adobe Reader. Is there a way I can print on both sides with the gnome standard programs?

Greetings
Alexander Skrotzky

Hi,

same problem with HP OfficeJet 8500 Pro (Evince & Openoffice).

Under OpenOffice I’m able to set Duplex (Long Edge), if I set Paper-Format to "A4 AutoDuplex". Sadly it has no effect on printing: Simplex-Mode is used in any case. My workaround is to create a PDF and use hp-print, which is viable, if you don't print many doc/odt-Files in Duplex-Mode like me.

I usually print pdfs, which is bad, because I have not figured out yet how to tell hp-print where to find not-embedded fonts.

kind regards from Dortmund/Germany,
Fabian

Can anyone re-confirm this please on a fully-updated Maverick, as bug #657357 seems to be very similar, and the fix for that bug has been released on 5th of November, 2010.

Hi,

i just tested again. I checked bug #657357. I'm using hplip 3.10.6-1ubuntu10.2.

Evince: I'm still just able to select "One Sided" in "Page Setup" within the option "Two-sided". It does not matter, if Paper-Format is set to "A4" or "A4 AutoDuplex".

Openoffice: The Printing-Dialogue still behaves as described above (my post written on 2011-01-11).

Considering the above, i have to re-confirm this bug on a fully-updated Maverick.

kind regards from Dortmund/Germany,

Hi,
i have the same bug with the HP Officejet Pro 8500.

Evince is not possible to print both sided. In LibreOffice its possible, but every time I want to print I have to change the setting.

Hi,

Same problem here. Evince shows one available option only (one sided) in the page config tab, "double sided" option. I'm now using the hp-print command as a workarround.

I'm using an up-to-date Ubuntu Natty with unofficial 3.11.5 Hplip & HP Officejet 6500A Plus (E710n) MFC. Libreoffice prints double sided fine here also (it also defaults to one sided, when it's set up to double sided by default in the printer settings).

I've also tried Okular, and despite the printing menu shows the default system options (double sided printing on -long edge-, black only & fast draft), it prints one sided!?

Thanks & greetings from Ibiza ;)

Same problem here with HP color laserjet cp3525.
Select duplex printing from evince but output is only one sided.
Acroread works fine.

@Richard Kleeman: it seems a different problem, as I am only offered one sided printing (two sided printing is not an option I can see nor select)...

Duplex printing works fine when I print from Adobe Reader or Okular.

Same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 with a hp_photosmart_5520 and LibreOffice : duplex printing work fine with evince but has zero effect in LibreOffice. When I configure it in the OO.o's printing box (A4duplex, two-sided long-edge....) and click OK, these parameters are immediatly forgotten.

Duplex printing is working fine in evince for me, too. Maybe the ticket should be transfered to Libreoffice.

Add "Duplex=None" to first line in $HOME/.cups/lpotions has solved the problem for me.

e.g.: Default YOUR_PRINTER Duplex=None

You can also remove this file.

Sorry ... That i have write before is not complet:
You must remove "~/.config/evince/print-settings", and print a first duplex page.
Then you can change your setup.

OR

You can add this in "~/.config/evince/print-settings" at the [Print Settings] section:

## for short edge:
duplex=horizontal
cups-Duplex=DuplexNoTumble

## or for long edge:
duplex=vertical
cups-Duplex=DuplexNoTumble

## or for One sided:
duplex=simplex
cups-Duplex=None

So the print evince setup does'nt stay blocked on 'one sided' anymore !
Hope this help...
