Bug Description

Suspend is not working on the Dell Latitude D810, the machine goes down but after trying to revieve it ends in a black screen and only powering off helps.

Hibernation is also not working, the machine won't turn off, however it comes back to gnome-screensaver asking for the password, so no freezing.

Does changing SAVE_VBE_STATE to false in /etc/default/acpi-support, solve the issue?

Ok, can you tell us what graphics card you have and what version of ubuntu you are running? Also, can you tell whether the machine is alive or not?
For example, does ctrl-alt-f1 followed by ctrl-alt-del shut down the laptop?

This is a Dell Latitude D810, with an ATI Mobility Radeon X300. Ubuntu version is Edgy Knot 3. I already told you in the bug report, that the machine freezes because only power off helps.

Have you tried both hibernate and suspend?
Are the results the same?
Have you tried changing other settings in /etc/default/acpi-support?

I've just fixed hibernation for me (nvidia 6600GT) by setting SAVE_VBE_STATE=false, so there is hope.
