There is not much to say. When I start acroread from the terminal, I get the following output:

 $ acroread
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error

Which goes on until I press ctrl+c.

It is the same problem described in the ubuntu forum link I gave earlier. I am using the very latest edgy, but it seems the problem has been going on for at least a few days.

I' ve been able to fix the problem as decribed in the link, i.e. by adding an asterisk in the file /usr/bin/acroread. This means that

echo $mfile| sed 's/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).0.so.0.\([0-9]\)00.\([0-9]*\)\|\(.*\)/\1\2\3/g'

becomes

echo $mfile| sed 's/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).0.so.0.\([0-9]*\)00.\([0-9]*\)\|\(.*\)/\1\2\3/g'

What other info do you need?
