Was this a fresh installation of flashplugin-nonfree or an upgrade?

Please execute ``sudo update-flashplugin''. If that still fails, please purge then reinstall the package.

This was an upgrade/ The update-flashplugin repeated the failure. Purge and reinstall appears to have gone smoothly. Does this imply that messed up files left over from 7.0.68~ubuntu1~dapper1 were continuing to cause problems in the fixed version?

Quite possible. Are the proper symlinks to the files in /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/ created?

Not rejecting this bug but closing it without further action. The problem on the bug submitter's system is solved. Anyone feel free to reopen and explain why.

It required purging and reinstalling the package in order to solve the problem. That would normally suggest to me that further work on the package is indicated. On the other hand, no one else has reported the problem yet. My philosophy is that a problem which happens once can sometimes be dismissed as a quirk ... but if it happens a second time, it is a real problem and something must be done to fix it.

I would agree that the bug be left closed for now, but if someone else reports the same behaviour, I hope that you will re-open it and add some further cleanup of previous files.

same problem happened in kubuntu 6.06.1

but I don't know if I can purge in adept, since I am using kubuntu.
