Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

I installed flashplugin-nonfree version 7.0.63.3ubuntu3 via Synaptic. In the pop up dialog in Synaptic for the flash plugin I clicked yes to allow downloading the plugin. Then following the instructions located at Gnome menu: System>Help>System Documentation I proceeded to use the command: sudo update-flashplugin

This always spits out the result: automatic installation failed due to network problems or upstream changes

Internet connection is working. I am trying to install the Firefox Flash plugin on Dapper 6.0.6.1. Please note that I do not use Backports on this particular Dapper installation and am not interested in using Backports for flash. Any help or explanation would be appreciated.

Maybe your problem can be fixed by coding these MD5 checksums in the update-flashplugin script:

a18532c8457f1140964c4d896a928c96 install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz
a81fd3b03b8c6d6e5a14298110718d3f install_flash_player_7_linux/flashplayer.xpt

I simply replaced the script's MD5 checksums with the ones you provided.

This did not work. I checked the URL for the downloads and this is what I got using Firefox:

Works
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com.edgekey.net/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz

I can confirm the problem and I solved it by simply adding some FAIL="false" into /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin.

But the package maintainer should add a fixed package so that all users can install flash easily.

The backport version couldnt be installed on my platform too

Im using Dapper with all updates

deb http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper main restricted universe multiverse

Adding FAIL="false" may work but is probably less secure.

If you're using Dapper, have you tried the package in dapper-backports?
http://packages.ubuntu.com/flashplugin-nonfree

I think that 7.0.63.3ubuntu3 should be removed. It is only good for testing launchpad. :)
