Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-8-generic

I am running Edgy Knot 3 with all the updates.

Running Kernel 2.6.17-7 I am able to boot (but slowly) when it is finished booting I have to disable->enable my eth1 in order to connect to my wireless connection.

Ever since I installed 2.6.17-8 The boot is much faster except I now when it is booted my network card is no longer recognized. If I click the network icon I get an error "SIOCCSFLAGS: Device not found" or something like that.

If I look at the network Settings my "Wireless connection" is missing.

I have also tried 2.6.17-9 with the same results. I am currently running 2.6.17-7 so that I can connect use my wireless.

While looking for a solution I came across this: "Bug #52302 - Intel Pro Wireless 3945 is not detected with latest kernel update" which is very similar but in Dapper with different kernels. Please let me know if this is a duplicate.

Thanks,
Justin Erickson

Hello,

Do you happen to have linux-restricted-modules-common installed?

As well, what is the output from the following command:
  $ apt-cache showpkg linux-restricted-modules-common

Thanks.

You've got a mismatch of packages installed. Do this:

sudo apt-get install linux-generic linux-restricted-modules-geneirc

That should keep you in sync.

Thank you it worked!

I have 2 questions though.

1. When booting 2.6.17-7 I would get a long stall about 1/3 of the way through the progress bar (30-40 sec) before it would continue to boot, and when it was booted I would have to disable-enable the card to make it work. Now -9 has these same issues?

2. How could you tell I had a mismatch? the output of that command is exactly the same now that it is fixed? I would like to know so that I can avoid these problems in the future.

Thanks
Justin
