xslt core task fails to work

Bug Description

Binary package hint: ant

If you only install the ant package and not the ant-optional package then the xslt taks fails:

[xslt] DEPRECATED - xalan processor is deprecated. Use trax instead.
[xslt] DEPRECATED - xslp processor is deprecated. Use trax instead.
     [xslt] java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.optional.XslpLiaison

but as xslt is a Core Ant task it is supposed to work without the optional pacakge installed so this must be a bug.

The task does work fine if the ant-optional package is installed so in that sense it is not a blocker for my activity but on the other hand it ought to be considered a blocker as it violates the core/optional task specification.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

As I normally now have the ant-optional installed, I wouldn't have seen any change.

I just tried the experiment of removing the ant-optional package and running an Ant build that uses xslt and it seems to work fine. I am using Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. So I guess the problem is fixed and this report can be closed.

Thanks.

Thank you for these new information.
We are closing this bug then as you report it works now with current version (Gutsy).
I think it cannot be fixed for previous versions because quite some packages depends on it.

I just tried this on Feisty and there is no problem there either.

It may be that I am not trying the correct experiment, but as they say "it works for me". If the problem is actually still there someone can reopen the bug.

Thanks.
