Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with GNOME desktop environment. The Chinese input application is Chewing with iBUS. To input Chinese, the key stroke is Ctrl-Space.
Many programs, such as GIMP and Chrome, are involved and not limited to Firefox. When I want to save something to a file in a new folder by FILE/SAVE AS/Create New Folder, a dialog popup with a new blank folder. The problem happens when I press "Ctrl-Space" to try to input Chinese, the new blank folder just disappear. Hence, it is impossible to create a folder with a Chinese name this way. However, to input Chinese characters as the "filename" is OK.

If I use Nautilus to create a new folder, I can input Chinese characters after pressing "Ctrl-Space". That is my workaround but it is inconvenient.
In addition, if I use Okular or Kchmsee, which depends on Qt, I can input Chinese characters as the name of new folder without anything going wrong. I wonder it is the GNOME-related library that is to blame.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test a current, supported, Ubuntu version. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

The problem persists in my Ubuntu 10.4 desktop with latest updates. Really, it is not firefox problem because the problem persists through gedit, medit, ..., nearly all gnome programs. But the problem doesn't exist in olular, a KDE program. I also have reflected the problem to gnome, but without much response. If you can help resolve the problem, I will much appreciate.

I am wondering if it is an issue with your ibus configuration. If you could run the following command in a terminal and attach the output file it would be appreciated:

gconftool --dump /desktop/ibus > gconf-ibus.txt

Hello, I have attempted to recreate the issue using the information you have provided, but so far no luck. Does changing the Enable/Disable Input Method key in System->Preferences->Ibus Preferences from Ctrl+Space to another combination allow you to input the folder name?

After changing the input method key to Ctrl-Del, Ctrl-space cannot allow Chinese input but Ctrl-space doesn't make the newly created folder disppear. However, the same problem appears for Ctrl-Del.
Creating a new folder in Nautilus doesn't cause any problem. The problem happens only with File/Save As.../Create new folder in applications such as Firefox, medit, gedit... ...

Hello. Could you please attach a log of the ibus daemon while having the problem? To obtain a log first run 'killall ibus-daemon' in a terminal to stop the running ibus and then run 'ibus-daemon -xvr > ibus-log.txt 2>&1' . This should log all output from the ibus daemon to ibus-log.txt. Thanks.

Hi, sorry for replying late. My email message just piled up rapily. The file was attached. I made the problem happen twice at first.

The problem still exists. Please help me. To reproduce the problem in Firefox:
(1)File/Save file as... to show a file dialoge
(2)Press the "Create New Folder" button
(3)To input Chinese, the toggle key is Ctrl-Space. Press Ctrl-Space will make the new folder disppear.
The ibus-log is in #12.
