while booting nothing appears on screen

Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-7-generic

I don't know if it's a desired feature on edgy. But after select the kernel to boot my system on grub, starts the load and inmediately appears, at the bottom of the screen the message "Kernel direct mapping tables up to 100000000 @ 8000-8000" and nothing more, just a few loading messages, no ubuntu logo nor nothing. At some point of loading the font in my screen changes to one a little more flat.
if a wait a while loads gdm as usual and may use everything.

PS: Can't confirm duplicity without more information. There seems to be different symptoms which may or may not me related.

it starts happens since my first dist-upgrade to edgy.
In the previous linux-images (from edgy) at shutdown i got this message:

[126855.392415] BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0!

after that, processing goes 100% (i knew that because the fan starts working hard) and after a while didn't seen to correct shutdown or reboot and i done it manually. Maybe this info could became things clear.

i have an nvidia card too but my boot time seems to be ok (not slower than dapper)
$ lspci
05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM) (rev a1)

i take three pictures
first, the message that shows for a while.
second, the few messages that appears
third, all the messages that appears before gdm loads (it's not more than screen totally), take a look at the change of the font
