Booting is very slow

Bug Description
At some point during Edge development cycle, booting has become extremely slow. It takes almost three minutes from grub until X starts.
This is on AMD64 running the latest everything.
uname -a
Linux flashheart 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Tue Sep 26 15:43:28 UTC 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Looking at dmesg there is an almost two minute gap in which nothing apparently happens. Nothing is written on the console in this period either.

Install bootchart and attach the file generated in /var/log/bootchart
I strongly suspect, given the details, that you have an nvidia motherboard and this is usplash spinning.
