I'm not sure I understood why #63312 and #63135 were marked as a duplicate of this bug. In the segfault case it was just a rare condition that happened once (I don't even know if this is reproducable), in the other cases that's an impossibility to read the stream.
To me, that's quite different, unless the bug in #63135 was introduced to fix the segfault.

So, unless the segfault problem is evocated in the upstream changelog, I think #63312 should be marked a duplicate of #63135 instead, this bug left open, and #63135 marked as solved.

Benoit

Nothing about a segfault in the Debian package changelog (it's a SVN snapshot so no upstream changelog I think).
I'm going to remove the duplicates on this bug, and make #63312 duplicate of #63135. #63135 to fix released and this one (#62856) just confirmed.

It seems to crash in mpeg2_idct_init.
That would make this a mpeg2 bug, and most likely one that might depend on the type of CPU optimizations that are enabled. You could test if --disable-sse --disable-mmx on VLC might fix the crash.

I couldn't reproduce the bug, so feel free to either forward it upstream or close it. (I opened it since I thought a backtrace may be useful for a vlc dev)
