Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-all

I'm not sure how to reproduce this.
From dapper, I did the
gksu "update-manager -c -d"
Then upgrade to Edgy. After everything was done, xserver-xorg-video-all didn't get installed, so I was missing xserver-xorg-video-ati that I need for my laptop.
I found that the old packages (from dapper) xserver-xorg-driver-ati was still installed. As a result, right after the installation, after reboot, my X didn't start with the following error message:

(II) LoadModule: "ati"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ati_drv.so
(II) Module ati: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
   compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 6.5.8
   Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8
(EE) module ABI major version (0) doesn't match the server's version (1)
(II) UnloadModule: "ati"
(II) Unloading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ati_drv.so
(EE) Failed to load module "ati" (module requirement mismatch, 0)

I can confirm this bug. I just upgraded from Dapper to the Edgy beta on an amd64 system, using the recommended "apt-get update; apt-get upgrade; apt-get dselect-upgrade", and on reboot got the same error. Running "apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-all" and manually editing the xorg.conf file (which had incorrect screen resolutions) seems to have fixed things.

I can confirm it, too. My system is i686 and I upgraded today from dapper. For me the apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-all didn't help...

Perhaps the fglrx driver which was previously installed did something? I don't know. :(

Has this been fixed for you since?

Sorry, I don't know. I fixed it myself last time by running the same command that Rachel mentioned.
I have not gone back since to see if it's been fixed. I don't think I'll ever go back to Dapper to reproduce this bug though.

Yeah, no need to. I believe this to be fixed by now anyway. Closing the bug.
