Bug Description

I upgraded my system from Dapper Drake to Edgy Eft. After I log in into Gnome, Metacity fails to load. If I start Metacity manually, it works ok.

Thanks for your bug. How does it "fails to load"? Do you get any message? Do you have anything about that to ~/.xsession-errors? What session do you use from gdm?

After removing some of my custom startup scripts from gnome-session problem is gone.

There was nothing usable in .xsession-errors and my first thought was that problem is connected with system upgrade (however, with same settings everything was ok in previous version).

Sorry for being to fast in posting that "bug".

It was compiz startup script, something like:

#!/bin/bash
gnome-window-decorator & compiz --replace gconf decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher &

I removed compiz few months ago but apparently I forgot to remove startup script from Gnome session startup programs.

Everything was working fine until upgrading to Edgy; after the upgrade, as I said, only error was that metacity didn't load. So, when I opened any program in Gnome it ended up without window manager. If I opened console and run metacity manually, window manager loaded and everything worked fine.

Now, after removing that compiz script from Gnome session startup programs, metacity loads perfectly.

This is an error in the custom startup scripts made by the user.
