[Edgy-Beta] No boot splash and no fb (?)

Bug Description

On Edgy Beta (i386 alternate), I have no boot splash.
Looking at several other related bugs I tried to look at the frame buffer.

$ fbset -i
open /dev/fb0: No such device
$ sudo fbset -i
open /dev/fb0: No such device

assigned to fbset assuming that no framebuffer = no splash image. I may be wrong though?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with final edgy release? Thanks in advance.
