Bug Description

Hello, I have a laptop witha wireless card, a wireless led and a wireless hotkey, linked to /etc/acpi/wireless.sh.

In my opinion network-manager sould be inproved to these features:

1) When I hit the hotkey the wireless is deactivated but network manager does not seem to be aware of this. I think that wireless network dialog should be disabled (linke right clicking on the icon and uncheck enable wireless)

2) When I unckech enable wireless, both the led and the radio could be switched off.

I think that network manager is really missing a framework for managing wireless devices!

Ok... anyway maybe it could be interesting if we open an upstream bug!

Ah whishlist... "aspetta e spera che prima o poi si avvera!"

Decide what one thing you want, and open an upstream bug. Then link it to this bug.

Honestly, I would go with #1. That's a legitimate bug, and one that was supposedly solved.

I don't know how to do that, usually upstream bugs are opeden by the mantainer

Actually, upstreams bugs are normally opened by whoever wants the bug fixed. ;-)

I'll help you out since I want NetworkManager to become robust and get included in a future Ubuntu. (And having a thousand stale bugs doesn't help that occur...)

This bug was opened as a feature request in 2006. The first part and most important portion of the feature request was making NM aware of kill switch transitions. This was implemented a long time ago, and hence the bug was marked as Fix Released.

Upstream is aware of the desire to have disable wireless power down the card, however it has not yet been deemed important enough to implement. Re-opening this bug gets us no closer to having upstream implement the feature.

If you are experiencing problems with your kill switch on Karmic, then please enter a new bug using the guidelines found here:
