Bug Description

Binary package hint: notification-daemon

The popup is sometimes too small, but doesn't even wrap text - it simply gets cut off. This is not easily reproducible. I don't know when/why it happens. Please see screenshot...

The notification has to be moved further left or wrapped

Thanks for your bugreport.

Does this happens if you switch to the "ubuntu" theme as well?

Thanks,

I'm not able to reproduce this anymore (This was not theme specific)
Can someone confirm?

I've not seen this problem in either the ubuntu or standard themes for a few days now. I suppose it's been fixed, thought the changelog for notification-daemon doesn't suggest this.

I just saw this happen. I had used the Ubuntu theme for a while and it didn't show this problem, although the standard theme clearly does still have it.

I'm seeing something like this in Gutsy with the Ubuntu theme for rhythmbox notifications - the text is sometimes truncated on the right and at the bottom.

In the attached, the d and part of the n of 'sind' in the title are missing, and the bottom row of text is sliced in half.

I see something similar in gutsy every time I unmount my Sandisk usb stick: the text is truncated, as in screenshot.

In Hardy on the battery notification bubble, the text got cut off. It says "This computer will hibernate in a short time if the AC is not" and the rest of the sentence is missing.

And this screenshot was taken on Gutsy, but I can confirm it's exactly the same on Hardy. This is the notification that a removable device is busy. It cut off the end of the sentence. All it says is "Please do not remove the media or disconnect the"

I can confirm it too on Hardy 64bit. Both free notifications and the ones linked to the notification area icons are often truncated when using the standard theme. See the new examples attached.

Is there a way to workaround the problem temporarily reducing the font size of notification balloons' text?

You might want to check a patch taken from upstream (not yet in a stable release) that fixes a similar problem:

http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewcvs/rpms/notification-daemon/F-9/notification-daemon-clipping.patch?rev=1.1&view=auto

At least it seems to fix a similar problem for us in PLD Linux.

@Patryk: thanks fot the link, I merged the one missing chunk that we didn't inlcude in our package and would welcome feedback. A new version is uploaded to intrepid.

It looks to have fixed it for me - I don't see any problems in Intrepid.

Seeing this problem with the standard theme in Hardy. As the patch is rather trivial, could the fix be backported to hardy?

Does this issue occur in Lucid?
