Bug Description

Binary package hint: file-roller

Example:

I've a file named "practica.zip"

Inside there are three files:
"Pràctica primer lliurament.pdf"
"Pràctica segon lliurament.pdf"
"Pràctica tercer lliurament.pdf"

it's impossible to extract these files because they have accents

I'm not able to reproduce the bug. You should create a new archive (with file roller and with zip utility too) which contains files with an accent in their names. Now you should try if these archives are affected too.

Hi Daniel,

file-roller doesn't crash. It happens with a zip file with files with
accents into it. If I create the file with file-roller it doesn't fail. It
happens when the zip file is created with windows. (I've tried with a file
created from WinXP and IzArc )

Thanks

Cesc

Does using unzip work on it? I'm sure there's another encoding related
file-roller bug somewhere. Does file-roller crash?

attachments can't be sent by mail, you have to use the webpage for it

extracting that file works fine on my feisty desktop. What error do you get? The filename is not correct but that's because the encoding is not UTF-8, not a file-roller bug

Hi, I've tried it again and now it works! But I have find the reason. It
fails when I try to extract it to a samba share. My fstab line to mount the
samba share is:

//192.168.1.2/dades /media/servidor cifs
defaults,credentials=/etc/samba/debserver1.pass,iocharset=utf8 0 0

seeing this I don't know if the error is in samba or in archiver.

Does doing an unzip from that file from the command line on the cifs directory works fine?

Hi,

it doesn't work too. The output is:
$ unzip Provà.zip
Archive: Provà.zip
error: cannot create Prov.txt

Thanks

it looks like an unzip bug.

also when executed at command line just to list the content of a zip file it doesn't show the name correctly:

$ unzip -l ébonita.zip
Archive: ébonita.zip
  Length Date Time Name
 -------- ---- ---- ----
    37035 06-20-08 20:25 Вbonita.jpg

The file was created at win vista with winzip and the correct content would be 'ébonita.jpg' instead of 'Bbonita.jpg'.

I have the same problem, with file-roller i can't unzip files with accents or other 'diferent' characters.when i extract them to my external hd which is ntfs-formated. I have no problems when i extract the file to a ext4 partition. The files are originaly made in windows. So i would consider this as a bug.
Any suggestions for work-arounds?
