Bug Description

Currently java-gcj-compat depends on following packages:
fastjar
gij-4.1 (>= 4.1.1-13)
java-common (>= 0.25)
libgcj-common (>> 1:4.1.1-13)
libgcj7-jar

Following newer versions are available in repos:
gij-4.2
libgcj8-jar

Please update java-gcj-compat to depend on newer packages.
Please also update java-gcj-compat-dev and java-gcj-compat-plugin accordingly to depend on newer versions.

NOTE: Newer versions are in universe repos. They will need to be moved to main. Old versions will need to be moved to universe.

The whole idea of java-gcj-compat[-dev/-plugin] is to recreate the traditional jre/jdk folder structure.

In this case there is the still official GCJ-4.1 version, and the new/unreleased GCJ-4.2 version but with a lot of new stuff (that's why there is GCJ-4.2 available in the repos).

Why not define two java-gcj-compat packages, similar to the two GCJ packages?

We could have the packages:
- java-gcj-compat[-dev/-plugin]-4.1

Which should depend on:
- GCJ 4.1
- GIJ 4.1
- libgcj7
- gcjwebplugin-4.1

and the packages:
- java-gcj-compat[-dev/-plugin]-4.2

Which should depend on:
- GCJ 4.2
- GIJ 4.2
- libgcj8
- gcjwebplugin-4.2

Then, the packages java-gcj-compat[-dev/plugin] should depend on java-gcj-compat[-dev/plugin]-4.1. This way users wanting to test applications on GCJ-4.2 can use the expected java compatibility layer.

the Ubuntu version of gcj-4.1 and the unreleased gcj-4.2 are mostly identical, so another java-gcj-compat ist not necessary. please let me know, where you see different behaviour in these two versions.

gcj-4.2 based on GNU Classpath 0.93 ... I need gcj-4.2 (or better 4.3) for more Java 1.5 and more Swing and AWT and JMF and ... compatibility for developing. Netbeans is working only with the original folder structure. Can you provide an inoffical or an description how to build an 4.2 compatible deb???
