Bug Description

When going to suspend it turns almost everything of the hardware off (since i head hard disk spin-off) and then without going to S3 it comes up again. I guess it should've been waiting for keypress or something, but whatever..

Now when it comes up, the disk spins up, but nothing happens and console contains:
pnp: Failed to activate device 00:08
ata2: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)

So I assume this is related to libsata suspend issues.

I barely got it working on dapper (suspend worked for once, for second time it didn't came up then).

Hardware is:
P4, Abit IS7, ICH5
WD 200GB SATA HDD

Also.. the console periodically spits out messages on ext3, block device errors.. So i assume the sata subsystem has failed to come up.

I've a similar issue... when I try to hibernate my system, it says:

pnp: failed to activate device 00:0c

When I try to resume the hibernated system, it says again:

pnp: failed to activate device 00:0c

... the floppy drive LED stays on, and the system doesn't resume and stays freezed ("black" screen, no video output, hard reboot needed).

most definitely a kernel issue

I think it could be ACPI related.

Can you attach the output of lspci. Depending on your hardware (sounds like it from the ICH5 chipset) this may be a duplicate of 67710

ekerazha, you have a different bug. Would you please open another bug report to log your problem?

Saulius, I'm going to mark this as a duplicate of bug #68927, to try to keep the bug reports focused on single issues (in this case, SATA-suspend interactions).

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached its end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
