Bug Description

Update stops due to not being able to retrieve files (I guess).

Window appears with the following title:
"A fatal error occured

Please report this as a bug and include the files /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log and /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log in your report. The upgrade aborts now.
Your original sources.list was saved in /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade."

The file /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log does not exist.
The content of /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log is attached
Hope this information is sufficient.
Kind regards

Thank you for reporting this bug. Can you please provide a copy of your sources.list. You can just run "cat /etc/apt/sources.list" either save it to a text file and attach it <, perfered way or you can paste the output in a bug comment.

I'm not a dev,

but this line

<code>MarkUpgrade() called on a non-upgrable pkg: 'ubuntu-desktop'
ERROR:root:IOError in cache.commit(): 'Failed to fetch</code>

Seems to be where it choked.

Did you have ubuntu-desktop installed before you did a dist-upgrade?

@John Vivirito: Please find attached my sources.list

@Andrew Hunter: I'm sorry I am quite a newb in Linux. But I had Knot 3 up and running in VM, so my guess is that ubuntu-desktop is installed then. But I am not sure about this.

Kind regards

Thanks for your bugreport.

Did you got a dialog saying something like "Could not download the upgrade" before it the fatal error screen came up?

Thanks,
 Michael

@Michael Vogt: Yes, this came up before the fatal error screen came up.
I was adviced to check my internet connection but nothing was wrong with that.
Internet and email were working perfectly.

Thanks a lot. The error should be fixed with the latest upload then. There is a open bugreport about the "improve the error message" already. But the crash is in the archive now.

@Michael: Sorry for maybe asking this newb questions but:
1. Do you mean with: The error should be fixed with the latest upload then. There is a open bugreport about the "improve the error message" already.
that the error basically is something else as indicated with the error message? Because I could not find the bugreport you mentioned.
2. the fix for the crash is in the archive now: Does this mean I have to make a new download or can a visit this "archive"? If so, where can I find it?

Once again, sorry for these newb questions.
