Default kernel should be generic also on upgrades

Bug Description

In dapper when kernels were updated the grub list became long, it's good that in edgy there are only 2 entries (not counting the recovery and memtest). I think the generic kernel should be defaulted to however with the 386 available as a failsafe rather than the default.

I'm suggesting this because the generic kernel supports the advanced features of new processors like smp, etc.

The generic kernel gets installed with clean install but since you were using -386 in dapper and upgraded that most likely that is why 386 is default. Im changing this to a wishlist as this is not a bug.

My kernel in dapper was 686 w/smp. After upgrading to Edgy, I now have the 386 kernel with no smp. How to I get smp back?

Install the generic kernel. If you already have it, remove it first.
