Bug Description

Binary package hint: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

Playing hi-res hdtv .mkv files (in totem) is very slow.
The same computer plays them almost perfectly in mplayer (AV sync is a little off after some minutes).
I think this package has the codec, correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you reproduce this on latest feisty?
Also can you please provide some more information about the actual codec used in the file, mkv (matroska) is only a container format that could contain almost everything

Changed in gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg:
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

I have no feisty yet, will come back to this when I do.

How can I get more info on the actual codec? Totem seems to have taken a step back, I don't have a properties menuitem anymore where the resolution/codec were advertised. Hmm maybe I could use mplayer for that aswell, but AFAIK mplayer only tells me what it is using to decode the file (like ffmpeg).
