Binary package hint: hotkey-setup
The Fn Keys to alter brightness, volume etc. do not work on my Sony vaio Vgn sz-110 in edgy. They were working perfectly fine in dapper.
I would like to provide more information, I do some output from my dmesg. The nvidia utility smartdimmer can still reduce the brightness as before. So I think it is something to do with the way hotkeys are setup.
I will provide more info, if you can give me some guidance on what to do.

Here is the dmesg output, it does detect the and init sonypi module. This line may be relevant. I do not know why fnkeyinit is off
