Bug Description

On my laptop (compaq presario 1200, celeron 500, trident cyberblade i1 (rev 6a) graphcs) the ubuntu bootsplash doesn't show up at all, either at startup or shutdown.

The only error I get is this:
via686a 0000:07.4: base address not set - upgrade BIOS or use forece_addr=0xaddr

lspci gives the following information about id 00:07.4:
ISA Bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 [Apollo Super ACPI] (rev 30)

btw I didn't mention that this is using a edgy beta 2 alternate install, and using update manager to bring it up to head.
