Bug Description

Binary package hint: adept-manager

Below are the main problems of adept on my computer
- Sometimes I get a hourglass turning over multiple times on the panel after i filled in my password, and all of a sudden it disappears from the panel. -
- Sometimes I fill in my password but nothing happens.
- Sometimes adept tells me that some other process is using the packaging system database while in fact no other application is started let alone using the packaging database.

I'm using kubuntu edgy beta 1

Confirming based on what? Do you get the same behavior? What version of Kubuntu are you using?

This bug is marked as Nominated for feisty. Now that feisty has been released is anyone still experiencing these problems or has it actually been fixed?

OK I just answered my own question. I just observed the 'disappearing hourglass' problem on a fully updated gutsy system. Started Adept from Kmenu and got an hourglass in the taskbar. After about 20-30 seconds it disappeared and nothing else happened. It didn't even get as far as displaying the password dialogue.

I just fully updated my gutsy system and I still have this problem. I need to start Adept multiple times in order to make it start.

I just installed Kubuntu 7.10 from DVD. First thing I did after install was to try to update the system. After an initial update it offered to upgrade me to Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 (which I just installed). I declined. Since then I ran it from the K menu button and I get a ksedu prompt and then nothing. After 2 attempts I ran sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade. Nothing was downloaded but several install configs were overwritten (no harm done, it's a brand new installation.)

Running adept_manager from the command line yeilds:

user@newhost:~$ adept_manager
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
user@newhost:~$

A bad start for a new release.

Should not be an issue in Intrepid, and if similar symptoms occur, they would have a different cause.
