Bug Description

When i launch wine, it doesn't start even after removing my ~/.wine folder.
Wine hangs waiting for something apparently.

This apply to 0.9.21 and 0.9.22.

I'm running an up to date Edgy.

I tested winecfg from wine 0.9.22 in edgy now, and it works perfectly.

I'm running Kubuntu-Desktop....
So I can't confirm your bug.

Hi Stephan,

It doesn't seems to be bug 42169 :
 - Wine doesn't crash
 - Wine doesn't print any error message related to sound. Wine only prints :
$ winecfg
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
 - I tried the workarounds of bug report 42169 : No effect

I tried wine on another machine (installed from Edgy beta CD) : It works fine.
My main machine was upgraded from Dapper to Edgy : Could it be a side effect ?

Hi Fred,

this could be, I just using a new installed edgy on this laptop.

I have to do a vmware installation of dapper and upgrade to edgy for trying to reproduce.

Hi Stephan,

I have found something !
I created another user on my main machine : Wine works when I am logged under that username account.
So the problem is somewhere in my home folder...

I will try to find what it is exactly.

I will keep you posted about what I found.

Regards,
Fred.

Hi Stephan,

I found the problem ! :-)
Finally it wasn't a local issue at all. Wine works when I launch it through xnest, but Wine doesn't work in a "normal" session no matter what user do it.
I lead me to think it was related to Xorg and I found I hit :
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-mga/+bug/58721

So using the workaround (adding UseFBDev in xorg conf), wine works again.

Hope it helps !

Fred
