Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-network

Network indicator on my laptop shows no connections, although both wireless and wired connections are active and working. The icon shows red ! sign, and the menu shows no connections and message "No network devices available" (while I can use the Internet without any trouble). I'm using maverick. I attach debug info from apport-bug. Also, I think a there may be important clues in the messages nm-applet writes to standard output when I run it from command-line, so I paste it below.

I'm not sure if the description is matching the SourcePackage. I have this problem with nm-applet from networkmanager-gnome.

I had networkmanager-gnome removed and replaced it with indicator-network. I then reverted back to networkmanager-gnome, and faced the problem described.

I removed (with --purge) and reinstalled networkmanager and it's subpackages, yet to no help.

Moving to network-manager-applet which contains nm_applet.

Same problem here, I've installed indicator-network and after that the network-manager stoped working, even after completly removing the indicator-network package....

In fact, I can claim I installed indicator-network, that's a clue. I
purged it soon after, but it didn't help.

Can you make sure network-manager is really installed?

What is the output of the command: 'dpkg -l network-manager libnm-glib2 libnm-util1 network-manager-applet' ?

Right, that's my fault, I should have written "network-manager-gnome". This look okay-ish on this end, perhaps just reinstall network-manager to make sure the .service files are added? (you can do this with 'sudo apt-get install --reinstall network-manager')

I had the same problem after I removed indicator-network, but I lost wired connectivity afterwards. I reinstalled indicator-network and it's working again. Now, I have the network manager applet right next to the indicator-network appearing in my panel. Can I get my panel back to normal?

The problem appears to be with the connman package not allowing networkmanager to run. Just uninstall connman (which is a dependency of indicator-network), reboot, and all should be well

Fixing this to make it clearer that the issue is with Conflicts between NetworkManager and ConnMan; nm needs to add Conflicts, and probably so does network-manager-applet.

IT is a conflict in natty. in maverick and lucid there are suggestions on the connman ubuntu wiki showing you how to disable NM and nm-applet.
