Many opengl screensavers crash with proper 3d support. There is already a bug about this, but for some strange reason the 3d-screensavers are still installed and enabled with a default install of ubuntu.

At least you were able to get a crash log. I've had many machines just come to a grinding halt.

The screensavers crashing is the fault of video drivers in general.
