Bug Description

Binary package hint: rt2500

Hi,

I cannot connect to my wifi network with edgy.

network-manager-gnome think my card is an ethernet card (I see wlan0 and wmaster0 with ifconfig) and is unable to connect my network.

network-admin is not able to scan networks and don't connect to my network if I specify the SSID.

With "iwlist wlan0 scanning" I can scan networks, but I'm unable to connect (maybe I just don't know how to connect with iwconfig...)

The module rt2500 doesn't seem to be loader by the kernel :

tv@pvrsalon:~$ lsmod | grep rt2500
tv@pvrsalon:~$

Here the output of lspci:

This bug will not be fixed for the final release !!!? This is a major bug when the only available connexion is a wifi link...

Francis, is this still a problem for you?

Are you sure that the MSI PC54G3 uses the rt2500 chipset? Notice your lspci output says "RaLink Unknown device". I know that, for my rt2500-based card, lspci says something a little more specific - it mentions "rt2500", I believe. Note, some cards have varying chipsets, depending when/where you happen to buy the card (AFAIK).

Same for me :
I upgraded from Xubuntu edgy to Xubuntu feisty just a few minutes ago. I have a Asus WL167g WiFi card with a rt2570 chipset.

I have now two WiFi interfaces : rausb0, that I can configure but that can't see any WiFi network with iwlist, and a new one wmaster0, that I can also configure in the network configuration interface, but that can't even scan.

But still works fine with the 2.16.17-10 kernel : the only WiFi interface is rausb0, and the connexion works fine. (The 2.6.17-11 doesn't boot anymore...)

Hello,

I don't know. The computer that use this card is still in Dapper (I reinstalled Dapper since I wrote this bug report but don't remember why).

I don't upgrade because of some kernel module I had to install manually in order to get working my MythTV box (iptv, lirc...).

Hello Francis,

your wifi card (PC54G3) is a tr61 card, not rt2500 card. Please follow the steps of https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/RalinkRT61 ant tell any succes.
