Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-mplayer

If I go to:
http://www.chetempochefa.rai.it/TE_videoteca/1,10916,1070922,00.html

mozilla-mplayer won't play anything. It tries to connect and then says Completed.

All the codecs are installed.

If I use the vlc plugin I'm able to play the video.

This affects Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 and mozilla-mplayer 3.31-1

P.S. Kaffeine plugin can't play it either

I can confirm this with the link provided, as well as while trying to view movie trailers on imdb.com. mozilla-mplayer's status messages show "Playing [URL]...", "Connected", and then "Stopped", with the video never starting playback.

Video plays successfully in Kaffeine, however, when using the MediaPlayerConnectivity extension for Firefox to launch the player and begin playback.

Kubuntu Edgy 6.10
mozilla-mplayer 3.31-1

I have a similar problem to Anthony, which persisted in my recent upgrade to kubuntu feisty. audio works fine and some video streams play back audio only, but I cannot play video.

Hi folks. I had the same problem as described by Alberto and Anthony. I was able to resolve it by right clicking the mplayer window, selecting configure, and checking the box that says "Connect to RTSP media over TCP". Good luck!

Confirmed on up to date feisty fawn, the "Connect to RTSP media over TCP" didn't help here.

My mother uses feisty and is having problems watching her business news (bnn.ca). It appears to be the same issue (displays server URLs, etc then just 'Stopped'), but she says that it does work some days, and some days it doesn't. She said that one time it started working right after she ran a synaptic auto-update. I have no idea how this could be related; even if synaptic updated mozilla-mplayer, it wouldn't have updated the copy installed to firefox, which is what she uses.

Considering the spotty nature of the bug, could this have something to do with the server? Or maybe it's due to a malformed event in the connection...

Also, connect over TCP did not work here either.
