I'm not able to connect to unencrypted networks with this card, either. It also worked fine for me in 10.04 x64.

works partially for me if i blacklist the following modules:
blacklist rt2800pci
blacklist rt2800usb
blacklist rt2x00lib
blacklist rt2x00pci
blacklist rt2x00usb

but if i want to connect to a wpa2 encrypted network i need several attempts although the access point is very near.
Also it will disconnect very often and again i need several attempts to reconnect

Hi all! I hope my comment could be helpful for anybody.
All information from [http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1579053&page=2] (first post) and readme of downloaded Ralink module sources.
Ubuntu 10.10 x64. Asus PCE-N13 (PCE slot, not USB). No connection to WPA2.
0. Make changes from first post [http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1579053&page=2].
1. Download RT2860PCI/mPCI/CB/PCIe(RT2760/RT2790/RT2860/RT2890) from page [http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2]. Rename file extension to tgz (there is error in extension naming).
2. Extract and go into archive. Open instruction README_STA -- there you can see, what to do (my next steps).
3. Open Makefile for edit. There you can made changes in accordance README_STA, but I did not need to change anything.
4. Go to ./os/linux/config.mk and set y for HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT and HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT.
All next steps from root (sudo before any command).
5. Go back to extracted from archive folder and exec make
6. Make folder /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/
7. While you in uncompressed folder exec cp RT2860STA.dat /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat
8. Type ifocnfig to see title of you wireless interface (my title 'wlan0').
9. Go to ./os/linux/
10. /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 down
11. /sbin/rmmod rt2860sta
12. /sbin/insmod rt2860sta.ko
13. /sbin/ifconfig ra0 up (or, maybe, /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up)
14. Now you can reboot, to be sure all changes applied. Maybe it be enough to log out and log in.
