There is a new release of Tesseract OCR - 3.0
Ubuntu repos contain only 2.04 release.

New 3.0 release brings a lot of improvements,
including more languages support!

I attached a bug watch to a bug in Debian requesting a newer version of tesseract. Since Ubuntu is based on Debian, a newer version of the package in Debian will also appear in Ubuntu after a while.

Is there really a "Fix committed"?
I don't see an entry on the Debian bug page that says that they've packaged tesseract 3.0 up to now.

Alex: I asked on #launchpad on IRC and learned the bug is set to Fix committed, since it is tagged 'pending' in Debian. This tag indicates an upload will occur soon, however apparently it shouldn't have remained that way for months.

Now that this is fixed in Debian, can/will it be automatically pulled in for Ubuntu Precise?
