Bug Description

Binary package hint: usplash

Hi

When booting, usplash looks weird (strange colours) until the end of the boot process, where it finally looks better. Then my virtual terminals show screen rubbish (see shot).

I'm using edgy (just upgraded from dapper). This is a laptop: acer ferrari 4005 wmli. ati x700. fglrx driver: 8.23.8 , linux kernel 2.6.17-10-generic x86.

I forgot to say I'm also using xgl/compiz, don't really know it it's related...

Hi

I've tried booting without Xgl/compiz and the issue remains.

Then I've booted with edgy beta live cd and the image looked correct, and my virtual terminals worked fine.

Any ideas?

I have the same problems, both with the fglrx and the radeon driver, so it does not seem to be related to that. I also have an x700 card.

Hi mvandeg

Could you please try booting with edgy x86 beta 2 cd and see if you have the same behaviour I've reported?

Thanks

Same problem here.

Is there any info that we could provide to help get this fixed?

kmon, where did you find beta 2?

I am not sure about the "strange colour" problem, but the unusable consoles is bug #63558.

I'm sorry, I meant beta, not "beta 2"

The "strange colour" problem is also mentionted in a bug #63558 comment. This seems like a high importance bug as it renders the virtual consoles unusable.

I'll try the beta CD as soon as I have time. At the moment I'm using version 0.4-32 and the problem is still there. Do I have to download/burn the cd then?

On the beta live cd it worked (at least in my box)

Hi

With today's updates the usplash graphic is nicer but the error persists.

I was able to work around the problem by adding vga=791 to /boot/grub/menu.lst:

# defoptions=vga=791 quiet splash

Hi

I can confirm that adding # defoptions=vga=791 quiet splash and reconfiguring the kernel package worked, although the text is too little (compared to default resolution in dapper or without usplash running).
