Bug Description

Binary package hint: base-installer

Text-mode-installer does not correctly detect BIOS-order for IDE-controllers.
It creates entries in fstab and boot/menu.lst for hde, instead of hda.
Afer booting live-cd and adapting these two files, the error was corrected and the system booted fine.

This applies to (at least): edgy beta iso, edubuntu 606

Hardware:
  Mainboard: Fujitsu Siemens Celsius 620
  BIOS ver: 2.00.03 rev: 2.30.1161

  IDE 0+1: onboard Intel 440BX
  IDE 2+3: Sil 0680

  IDE0.master(hda): 80gb
  IDE0.slave(hdb): none
  IDE1.master(hdc): dvd-rom
  IDE1.slave(hdd): cd-rw
  hde - hdh: none

BIOS settings:
  1st boot device: ATAPI CDROM
  2nd boot device: 1st IDE-HDD
  3rd boot device: 2nd IDE-HDD
  4th boot device: floppy
  try other boot devices: yes

Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately no one has updated it in almost two years and I was wondering if this is still an issue?

 Thanks,

well, since it refers to old hardware - so old that i haven't played with it for a long time - i think, this can be closed.

for a correct solution, we should try a recent ubuntu on that system again ... is this necessary?

Christoph

I don't know if it's necessary but if you ever try that equipment again and it still happens I would open another bug report.
