Hi,

my problem is similar to this:
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=42681&highlight=connection+data+source+established

running the latest openoffice from the edgy repository
(2.0.4~rc3-0ubuntu2) and libhsqldb-java
(1.8.0.5-2ubuntu1) with SUN's JRE (1.4.2) rather than
that of the FSF (gij 4.1).

After Creating a new Database, attempting to add
tables, queries, or forms results in the error
message:

<snip>
The connection to the data source "New Database" could
not be established.
</snip>

clicking on "More->Error":

<snip>
SQL Status: S1000
Error code: -29

Dile input/output error /home/*****/New
Database.properties java.io.IOException: No
OutputStream
</snip>

Installing gij (4.1) and selecting it as the JRE from
Tools->Options->OpenOffice.org->Java rather than the
SUN JRE fixes everything but I can no longer select
SUN's JRE after that.

Has the ubuntu team purposely disabled the support for
SUN's open source JRE in favor the totally Free JRE
(gij).

If not does anybody have any advice as to what the
problem might be running openoffice with SUN's JRE and
without gij.

I've also tried the blackdown JRE (1.4.2) and SUN's
latest JRE (1.5).

regards,

oobase still gives the errors described with the following packages:

openoffice.org-java-common 2.0.4-0ubuntu2
openoffice.org-math 2.0.4-0ubuntu2
openoffice.org-style-default 2.0.4-0ubuntu2
openoffice.org-style-industrial 2.0.4-0ubuntu2
openoffice.org-writer 2.0.4-0ubuntu2
sun-java5-bin 1.5.0-08-0ubuntu1
sun-java5-demo 1.5.0-08-0ubuntu1
sun-java5-jdk 1.5.0-08-0ubuntu1
sun-java5-jre 1.5.0-08-0ubuntu1
sun-java5-plugin 1.5.0-08-0ubuntu1
unixodbc 2.2.11-13

are there any other concerned packages?

neither the sun jre1.5 nor jre 1.4 work.

the ubuntu build of base only works with gij et al.

the build available from openoffice.org works with either of sun's JREs

is there a gconf attribute that needs to be set?

actually I switched to a debian repository some time ago.
the last thing I remember fiddling with was the X settings.
could the non-gij javas have had problems connecting to the X server?
I don't have the xorg.conf any longer.
sorry if this doesn't help. but I guess this bug should to be closed.
