Bug Description

in the /var/log/boot there's following message:

FATAL: Error inserting smsc_ircc2 (/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/net/irda/smsc-ircc2.ko)
: No such device

It looks like this is the IrDA module, and when we try to load this module manually, it gives the same error:

dushkal@dushkal:/etc/modprobe.d$ sudo modprobe smsc_ircc2
FATAL: Error inserting smsc_ircc2 (/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/net/irda/smsc-ircc2.ko): No such device
dushkal@dushkal:/etc/modprobe.d$ uname -a
Linux nikhil 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Wed Oct 11 23:35:12 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

Please attach dmesg output. From the looks of it, you don't have this hardware (or maybe it's disabled in BIOS).

Please also attach (remember, attach, not paste in comment) the output of "cat /sys/bus/pnp/devices/*/id".

Thanks.
