Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome

With some chipset audio, there isn't master channel or this doesn't affect the volume.

With the gnome mixer applet, everybody can change the controlled channel by right-clicking on it and choosing preferences.

Hopelessly, this doesn't affect the multimedia keys and the volume changed is quite useless with theses.

(This bug is related to the last part of #45786 bug).

Thanks for your bug report. Which version of Ubuntu do you use? Which chipset do you use? Can you run
  lshal > lshal.txt
and attach the file to the bug report?

I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 (so edgy) and I have updated it every day.
My chipset is an Intel HDA (ICH7 Family). More details at line 399 of lshal.txt.
I've got no master channel on it, but headphone one.

I've got the same problem with an Intel AC'97 82801DB-ICH4 chipset running on dapper.
I've got a master channel on it but it doesn't change the volume.
