Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

My PC has 1 HD, with 3 partitions:
1. Win98 FAT32
2. Win2000 NTFS
3. Data FAT32
So Win98 is the boot, but I always run win2000.
I tried getting Kubuntu (6.06.1) Install to delete win98 and use the space (2,8GB), but I got strange messages... some of them described in other bug reports.
So I deleted everything but the root directory on Win98, and resized it to 50 MB with Partition Magic 8.0.

(Note that in the following I have translated some messages from danish to english.)
Now I ran Install again, and in Step 5 of 6 I chose "Use the largest block of free space". I press Continue and get a small window: "Error: Could not partition the chosen disk". I press OK, and Install goes to step 6 of 6. I read the summary and press Install.
I little window tells about the process, but stops at: "Installer - Finding filesystems - 14%" And there is no activity for several minutes. I can only close the window with the X in upper right corner.
Now there is only the Install window. I press Cancel (the cursor is a circle with dots, probably indicating that "it is working" although nothing is happening.)
"Do you really want to cancel?" Yes.
An "Installer crashed"-window appears for 0.5 seconds, and both windows disappear. (When I got that window in an earlier attempt to install, it asked me to report the bug, which I did.)

I have done the above twice, and both times I looked in the log files while the window said "Installer - Finding filesystems - 14%".
The following is parts of the contents, the first time:

System log: At the end of the file!:

I forgot to mention: After this I could not boot on the HD. I had to restore a Drive Image backup of Win98.
