Try and add vga=0 as a kernel boot parameter in grub and see if it resolves your issue.

After resuming try to remote ssh into the machine and retrieve the Xorg and the kernel log. Please attach them to this bug.

I've added the "vga=0" and thins changed a bit. Now the xorg process stops consuming 100% of the cpu cycles after the resume. However, the screen doesn't resume properly and now has strange vertical lines. But now i'm able to switch to tty1 with ctrl-alt-f1 and if i go back to X diaplay 0 with alt-f7 the screen is refreshed ok and i see my desktop and i'm able to use it.

We are sorry that we didn't get to your bug report earlier, but the 18 month support period for Edgy Eft, 6.10, has reached it's end of life and we are marking the linux-source-2.6.17 task as Won't fix. However, please note that I am opening a linux task for the actively developed kernel. It would be helpful if you could test your bug with the recently released version of Ubuntu - Hardy Heron. You should be able to test this bug with a Live CD which you can get from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
