Bug Description

Binary package hint: kaffeine

Since going up to 0.8.2 kaffeine no longer plays DVD-T. Both xine and mplayer still work but I don't like either of their interfaces.

I have cleared out .xine, the kaffeine rc and app files and restarted and the same thing occurs;-

1. start kaffeine
2. select DVB
3. as the channel starts to render (you get the kaffeine splash screen in the
    video window), the program crashes.

I am using Xgl + compiz but it was working just fine until about a week ago.

Running it from a console gives me:

djk@dirk4:~$ kaffeine
/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 : opened ( Zarlink MT352 DVB-T )
/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend1 : : No such file or directory
/dev/dvb/adapter1/frontend0 : : No such file or directory

What if you disable XGL and Compiz ?
Those are still very bugging especially with kde apps...
Hard to guess if that's a kaffeine issue if you use external stuff like XGL...

Further investigation reveals that I had an instance of jackd running (I strongly suspect a certain son of mine on this). It appears that removing this instance allows kaffeine to work again.

It also explains the lack of sound (that together with a lack of headphones [see previous piece of blame for the reason]).

However, since xine is doing the rendering and it works natively, as does mplayer, why does kaffeine blow up?
